VIVALDI’S MUSIC PRODUCTION  Vivaldi's musical output was enormous. His known works number 734 concerts for solo instruments, strings and basso continuo (although there are probably more undiscovered pieces in archives, libraries and private collections in Europe). The following instrumental concerts are listed: 252 for violin, 39 for bassoon, 27 for cello, 16 for various flutes, 15 for oboe, 6 for viola d'amore, 2 for mandolins, 2 for the horn, one for lute and one for two trumpets, 26 for strings (sinfonie e concerti), and 51 for various instrument combinations including everything from mandolins to drums. Moreover, Vivaldi composed an extraordinary amount of vocal works: 46 operas, 40 cantatas, a large number of motets, bravura pieces, more than 70 sacred works, several masses such as 2 Glorias, Credo, Kyrie, a number of hymns, 2 Beatus vir, 2 Dixit Dominus, Nisia Dominus, Laudate pueri, Laetatus sum, 2 Magnificats and 2 Salve Regina, one Stabat Mater and the oratorio Juditha Triumphans. To this should also be added a variety of chamber music in the form of sonatas, trio sonatas and concerti da camera. The list is endless. NATIONAL COLLECTIONS OF MUSIC IN SWEDEN  Vivaldi was famous as a violin virtuoso in Europe and he met princes and royalty wherever he did concerts. Vivaldi visited Frederick IV of Denmark and dedicated his Opus 2 to him in 1709. On the trip to Denmark it was thought he might also visit Sweden, but pack ice in the Öresund meant that unfortunately he never reached Sweden. However, some manuscripts of Vivaldi's music are preserved both in Lund and Uppsala University Library, and in Stockholm in the Royal Academy Library and the National Collections of Music.
